Brenda Yarnell: Camp for children with disabilities offers Life Without Limits
When many people think of summer camp, images of fun-filled days and timeless memories come to mind.
But for children with disabilities, opportunities such as summer camp can be limited. Fortunately, United Cerebral Palsy Land of Lincoln, with the support of volunteers, offers the Life Without Limits Day Camp in an eight-week format that meets five days a week during the summer months.
Camp is open to school-aged children, ages 6-21 with disabilities, offering an experience in which all children are welcomed and volunteers are prepared to meet the complex needs of these wonderful children. While full of fun experiences, Life Without Limits provides an educational focus to help campers maintain or build academic skills over the summer in the areas of math and reading. Camp curriculum also includes physical activity, crafts and field trips into the community to build on academic, social and life skills goals.
