UW Sunday Column 3-30-14: Karen Kirkendall from Autism Society Central Illinois

Dr KirkendallApril 1 marks the start of Autism Awareness Month for 2014.

During this month, I hope we can contemplate the perplexity of this condition and learn more about the needs of children, adolescents and adults with autism but also celebrate the courage and tenacity of the families raising autistic children. These are all things that mark the mission of the Autism Society Central Illinois 365 days of the year.

As I prepared to write this column, I thought about what the past 25 years have been like for children with autism and their families in central Illinois.
