Last week, United Way received a $5,000 donation from the Tom Lange Company as a Champion of Literacy Sponsor for United Way’s Imagination Library Program. Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is an early childhood literacy program, providing a new, free age-appropriate book, each and every month, to preschool aged children in Sangamon County.
The program’s objective is to foster a love of reading for children, encourage parents to read with them, and jump start a child’s education. There is no cost or obligation to families who want to participate; and, any family living in Sangamon County with a child under the age of 5 is eligible to register. Children graduate from the program on their fifth birthday.
Thanks to the generosity of Tom Lange Company, hundreds of new children in our region will benefit from the literacy program. Since launching the program in 2012, nearly 4,000 children are currently enrolled or have graduated from the program. Last year alone, United Way provided more than 31,000 books to area children.
Thank you again to Tom Lange Company for its commitment to the future of our community.
