The 2013 campaign of United Way of Central Illinois raised a little more than $2.6 million, campaign officials announced at the annual meeting Thursday.
Two new initiatives — the 211 information system and the “Get Connected” website for volunteers — continued to grow.Last year was the first time the campaign did not set a fundraising goal. The 2013 fundraising figure was down 2.1 percent from 2012.
“We did not set a goal last year because of the challenges,” John Kelker, president and chief professional officer of United Way of Central Illinois, said after the meeting of 350 members at the Crowne Plaza hotel.
Kelker said the loss of American General as a major campaign participant made 2013 an especially challenging year.
