Three years after St. Patrick Catholic School was in danger of shutting its doors for good, officials say the 103-year-old private school on Springfield’s east side is back on track.
St. Patrick, 1800 South Grand Ave. E., saw its enrollment drop to a low of 46 students in grades K-5 during the 2010-11 school year. The school once averaged about 80 students per year.
Gary Sullivan, the school’s executive director, said the drop in enrollment sparked conversations among board members about closing because there simply wasn’t enough money coming in to maintain daily operations.
