It is with sincere gratitude that United Way of Central Illinois announces the retirement of its President and Chief Professional Officer, John Kelker. John has stated he will be retiring effective April 1, 2022. We at United Way are indebted to his vision and commitment for propelling us to our present position in our community outreach efforts. His work has assured our success into the future.
John began his career as President of the local United Way in 1996. During his tenure, John grew the organization’s resource development efforts while embracing a national Community Impact model. Under John’s leadership, the Springfield United Way has been a leader in requiring funded partner accountability for the funds donated to its annual campaign. He has been active in the community through numerous civic organizations as well as state and national United Way efforts.
In retirement, John and his wife LuAnn, plan to stay in the Springfield community where they will remain close to family and friends. Efforts to secure John’s successor will begin immediately with the formation of a search committee. Board Chair Cass Casper stated, “John has been the face of United Way in our community for more than twenty-five years and will be missed. His early notification will provide the time needed to conduct a proper search, secure his successor and make a seamless transition.” United Way will conduct a search using the resources of United Way Worldwide while involving community and business leadership.
