Meet Your New United Way Staff

United Way of Central Illinois would like to welcome and introduce their newest team members, Karla Hart their Accounting Specialist, Ashley Earles their Marketing and Communications Specialist, and Sara Trine their Office and Finance Associate.

Karla’s role will be to perform all internal accounting functions, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, pension administration, employee benefits administration and internal clerical functions. Karla has 35 years of accounting and bookkeeping experience. Karla completed the Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent course and passed the Enrolled Agent’s Examination in 1996 and holds an Enrolled Agent’s certification.
Prior to working at the United Way, Karla spent 26 years at a large Springfield based accounting firm and the last 9 years, working from home as the CFO of a chain of funeral homes located in Grosse Ponte, MI.
Karla was born and raised in Springfield and moved to New Berlin where she met her husband Mark of 38 years. They have two adult children Stephen and Nicole, four grandchildren Nolan, Cameron, Madigan and Jase. They enjoy spending time with their family, summer swim parties, holiday parties and going to all the sporting events of their grandchildren.
Since Karla resides in the Village of New Berlin, the Sangamon County Fair is always one of the events they enjoy each year, Karla has won many awards for her baking entries, including 1st place and Best of Show for her German Chocolate Cake.

Ashley’s role will be to perform marketing and communications activities through social media and electronic presence. She will be responsible for the design and development of the campaign and advertising along with planning and directing special events.
Ashley comes with more than 14 years of experience developing relationships and sharing stories to promote and assist nonprofit organizations. She has built a network of connections and highly enjoys connecting others to the resources they need to thrive.
Prior to working at United Way, Ashley spent over 10 years in the Early Childhood field from teaching in the classroom to providing professional development training to other Early Childhood professionals. One of her proudest moments was receiving the UIC Specialized Care for Children 2017 Champion for Children and Illinois AEYC 2017 Children’s Champion.
Ashley is actively engaged with the Association for Women in Communications as a member, serving as the Board President for the Tri-City Youth Sports League and coaching her daughters 8 and under Softball team.
Ashley was born in Naples, Italy and grew up in Rushville, IL moving to the Springfield area in 2007. She has been married to her husband, Drew for 9 years and has two daughters, Ena, 7 and Emmie 20 months. They live on a family farm raising cows, goats and chickens. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, baking and cooking with her daughters and enjoying Christmas music and movies all year long.

Sara’s role will be to assist with the accounting functions of the office as well as the management of the front desk duties. Sara comes from the education field with over 13 years in the field and teaching in various levels of education from early childhood to 6th-grade reading specialist. Sara also has marketing and office experience through her time spent as the Newspapers in Education coordinator for the State Journal-Register. Sara spent the last year at home with her kid’s homeschooling and holding down the fort while her husband was deployed. Sara has two boys, age 3 and 8, and has been married to her husband for 12 years. Her husband Andrew is a full-time employee at Camp Lincoln here is Springfield and has been a member of the Illinois National Guard for almost 20 years. Sara grew up in Williamsville, IL, and Sara and her family now reside in Sherman, IL. Sara enjoys reading and running and just spending time with her family as much as possible.
